When you start looking for bedroom decorating ideas, you know you've got a big task ahead of you. After all, the bedroom is the most important room in the house, and you want to get everything *perfect*. Before I start offering bedroom decorating ideas though, I want to say this upfront: I am somewhat biased, because I am a feng shui writer. I follow feng shui principles fairly thoroughly and for the most part think that they are common sense and complementary to any other notions of interior design and decorating. As you'll see, when applied to the bedroom, feng shui offers many unique and aesthetically pleasing bedroom decorating ideas and principles.
Here are some general bedroom decorating ideas. As a room, the modern-day bedroom has seen a number of recent changes in recent time. We've seen the introduction of television sets, en-suite bathrooms, built-in closets, and even home offices built into the bedroom! No wonder people are looking for bedroom decorating ideas. You have to remember that the bedroom - first and foremost - is a place for rest and relaxation. It's your place of downtime and intimacy. Putting other items in the room can upset the nature of the room, and lead to problems like insomnia or sleeplessness developing. In may be simple, but removing all items unnecessary to your restful sleep from your bedroom is an extremely valuable bedroom decorating idea.
But what about bedroom decorating ideas for those of us living in studios or smaller homes? What about if you have too much stuff?! What you need to do is use partitions (think of the traditional Chinese wooden dressing partitions) to separate your bed - your resting area - from the rest of the room then. It's not ideal, but it works. Speaking of which, the centerpiece of your bedroom should of course be the bed. Find a bed that is comfortable to sleep on, that promotes rest and relaxation, and then decorate your room around that. Any ‘bedroom decorating ideas' should revolve around the bed, as it's the most important thing in the room. Some more bedroom decorating ideas involving the bed are to place it properly in the room (foot NOT pointing out the door, back against the wall, entrance to bedroom visible from bed), and of course choosing an appropriate bed (I personally think that a wooden frame feels more natural than a metal frame).
A lot of bedroom decorating ideas are really common sense: Don't put a TV set in your bedroom, or at least cover it up when you sleep। Don't put computers in the bedroom. Don't put water features or imagery in the bedroom (it's a feng shui thing). Make sure all your closet and doors open smoothly. Use skin-tone colors when decorating to promote relaxation - avoid using heavy or bright colors in the bedroom. Only hang happy or romantic pictures in the room. Cover up mirrors when you're sleeping (again, it's a feng shui thing). I hope that gives you enough bedroom decorating ideas to get going!
